Justinian's Plague was the first known pandemic of the deadly disease known as the plague (Yersinia pestis). It ravaged the Roman / Byzantine Empire, devastated the Byzantine capital Constantinople and put an end to Justinian's dreams of restoring the lost glory of the empire. This is the story of humanity's first tryst with Yersinia pestis.
